Dear All, ( and particularly all Chapter Leads for ICPC-3) posted 2018, May 5
Kees recently sent us all an email describing the ICPC-3 Consortium and its structure and activities to date.
I therefore now take this opportunity to give you all an update on the activities of Task Force A.
Those of you who were in Lyon in 2017, and those who have read the Minutes of that meeting, will know that at the WICC meeting 2017, Task Force A was established to review the chapter comments and suggestions made by each Chapter Working Party, with particular attention to recommendations that affect another chapter (e.g. a suggestion to move a rubric from their chapter to another chapter, or move one from another chapter to their chapter), to review consistency between chapters and to draw the suggested changes into a standard format of presentation, with the rubrics placed in their correct component and sub-component.
We have had monthly Skype meetings since early November but have not moved as fast as we wanted.
We have to date reviewed chapter R, Chapter U and Chapter D.
The Task Force documentation of these reviews of chapters R, U and D is currently being finalised.
We are soon moving on to Chapters S, T, and to K or N, with a further chapter to be selected shortly.
We have a plan on a final layout of the review:
where there is disagreement between a Chapter Working Group and the Task force it will include both opinions,
it will also show where agreement between the two groups was good
As you will be aware, in the move from ICPC-1 to ICPC-2, some new rubrics added and others were removed, so that there was not always space in the right component/subcomponent to put the new rubric ( as you could not use a discarded ICPC-1 code as this would lead to confusion over time between the meaning of that code).
To overcome the fact the in ICPC-2 some rubrics are in the wrong place ( see the Two Pager of ICPC-2 with the colours to designate correct component /subcomponent), we are putting the rubrics in their correct Component and subcomponent ( e.g. Component 7, Diagnosis/disease, subcomponent
Injuries)
However, each rubric will also have the ICPC-2 code listed so we know where things are moving from and to.
This will allow clean comparison across chapters at a later date.
The organising process allows us to identify where there are any missing ‘other…..’ rubrics, within a sub-component and at the end of the component and the end of the chapter, that have not been added by the working group for that chapter.
We have had two people working on each chapter: considering their proposals and discussing those for which there is any disagreement. Also we are checking for any issues that may have been missed by the Working party in light of the international data file, and the comments file.
The document will also highlight across chapter issues occurring as a result of a recommendation made in the whole process of Chapter Group & Task force work.
When the final summary of report of the views of the chapter Gorup an the TFA is ready, it will be sent to the Lead of that chapter, who should share it with his/her team on the working group.
If the chapter lead is happy with this document:
they should send it directly to Olawaunmi ( WICC/WOCA Rep on the Consortium.
In turn, Olawunmi will submit this to the Consortium.
If the chapter lead is not happy with the document, and wishes to make further changes they should annotate the changes suggested and send it BACK to the Task force A to ensure standard presentation remains.
Once a chapter is ready for sharing, it will go through Olawanmi to the Consortium.
I have been told, at this is so that the comments and discussions, suggested changes etc can be entered into a newly designed electronic program.
Kees says that the consortium WANTS to see where there is disagreement and where all agreed, so we are trying to include both points of view, where agreement has not been reached. So don’t feel we have to force a decision if differences in opinion remain on any issue.
This does not mean that work on any chapter is OVER.
At the end of this process, I am sure that issues will remain for discussion within the working group for that chapter.
Also, the cross chapter issues are going to need discussion.
Chapter LEADS
We will be in contact with you about your chapter at some time in the near future.
If any one in WICC has questions, please let me know.
Best wishes to you all,
Helena Britt
